Kids love classes at Adventure Theatre

Adventure Theatre has a whole new line up of classes and workshops to ignite and inspire your child’s imagination.
Winter classes are 10 weeks long and begin January 12, 2009
Spring classes are 8 weeks long and begin the week of April 20, 2009 (take 20% off for the 8 week tuition price)
Siblings (and parents) who sign up for classes in the same session receive a 10% discount!  Bring a friend and receive a 10% discount! (All discounted registrations must be called into the office). Call Meryl Cullom (301)634-2268 mcullom@adventuretheatre.org

Creative Drama Mama (and Dads and Grandparents and Caregivers too!) — (ages 2-4 with adult) Take a trip with your child through their imagination and yours The instructor will guide the class on a theatrical journey through fairy tales, fables, tall tales and more. Instructor guided, and child inspired (working toward child guided). Tuesdays 11:30-12:15; Saturdays 10:00-10:45 – $200.

Preschool Adventures in Theatre — (ages 3-5) A wonderful introduction to theatre filled with imaginative journeys, theatre games, improvisation and more. Students will learn self-confidence, cooperation, teamwork, and creative thinking. Mondays 1:45-2:30, Tuesdays 12:30-1:15; 1:30-2:15; Thursdays 1:45-2:30, – $200

Adventures in Theatre I — (ages 6-8) Take a journey through drama and the basics of acting, improvisation, and character development through theatre games and fun acting exercises. Monday 4-5 – $200

Winter Musical Theatre Workshop — The jungle will be jumpin’ with jazz in this exciting Disney classic production of “The Jungle Book”! Students will learn basic musical theatre technique, voice, movement, and acting while gaining confidence and learning to work within an ensemble.  All enrollees are guaranteed a speaking and singing part.  (grades 2-8) Tuesdays and Thursdays 4-6 --$500-– tuition is not refundable after the first class

Spring Musical Theatre Workshop - BROADWAY Adventures!  Students will perform favorite Broadway show tunes from such shows as “High School Musical”, “Hairspray”, “Wicked”, and more.  Students will create their own dialogue while learning musical theatre technique, voice, movement, and acting to create an original theatrical piece and everyone gets to shine!  (Grades 2-8) $ 400 begins April 21, 2009 Tuesday and Thursdays 4-6pm

Light Saber Adventures I— (ages 7-11) Learn to safely wield a Star Wars Saber. This class will teach lessons in safety, discipline, how to focus, teamwork and conflict resolution all within the safe framework of basic stage combat movement. Wednesdays 4-5:00 and 5:15-6:15 – $250

Light Saber Adventures II—(ages 8-12) (Prerequisite- must have taken Light Saber I to register) This class builds on the skills learned in Light Saber I and adds new and more challenging stage combat techniques.  Students will apply these techniques in short scenes they create with the instructor and their class mates. Mondays 4-5 and 5:15-6:15 – $250

Homeschool Workshops

Home School Adventures in Theatre — Come begin an Adventure!

Choose between our many Home School offerings that fulfill State mandated Theatre Standards:
1– Acting Adventures - Perform and participate in theatre improvisations and dramatizations to learn acting and scriptwriting fundamentals.
2– Arts in Education- Students, along with their instructor collaborate on creating an original play that addresses a specific topic theatrically, using techniques designed to promote teamwork, cooperation, self-confidence, along with basic theatre techniques and beginning playwriting skills.
3– Adventures In Musical Theatre – Along with the instructor, students will help create and perform their own original musical. This hands-on class will help students gain confidence and poise as well as develop performance skills all within an empowering and positive atmosphere.

Design your own theatre curriculum according to the needs of your students.
Classes are given Tuesdays 1-2:30 and Thursdays 1-2:30. Cost-$25 per student per session.  There is a minimum of 8 students per session.

Scout Workshops

We are pleased to offer a variety of theatre and performing arts workshops which will fulfill the World of Arts Theatre Badge and the Arts Patch Program for Girl Scouts and the Boy Scouts of America Merit Badge.

Workshops are conducted at Adventure Theatre located in historic Glen Echo Park in Glen Echo, Maryland or special arrangements can be made to bring the “Adventure” to your location.  Workshops are tailored to meet the needs of different age levels and the interests of specific groups.

  • There is a fee of $18 per person for a 1 hour session or $25 per person for a 1 ½ hour session.
  • Arrangements must be made in advance. Full payment is due upon reservation of your day and time.
  • A minimum of ten (10) persons is needed for each workshop. Adult chaperones must attend with groups of children.
  • Please call Meryl Cullom, Education Director at 301-634-2268 or email mcullom@adventuretheatre.org to make arrangements for your Workshop!

Workshops: (Unless otherwise noted, each workshop can be either one hour or 1½ hours.)

  • Playwriting and Performance (Usually done with two or three 1 ½ hour sessions.)
  • Acting – Basic stage technique and character development
  • Improvisation
  • Set Design
  • Musical Theatre (usually done with three 1 1/2 hour sessions)
  • Creative Dramatics
  • Light Saber Stage Combat

Spring Break Musical Theatre Workshop

Everyone needs a break! Take yours with Adventure Theatre April 6-10 from 9:00-3:00 Students will create their own characters and dialogue while learning Broadway musical theatre technique, voice, movement, and acting to create an original theatrical piece where everyone gets to shine!

 

Summer Musical Theatre Workshop

Age 6 - 15 Each 2 week workshop culminates in a full-scale production with costumes and props performed on Adventure Theatre's Main Stage. Please check our website in the near future for more details.

 

Class Policies

REGISTRATION: Registration for these classes is directly with Adventure Theatre. Forms can be found online at www.adventuretheatre.org or call 301.634.2270 for more information. Students are enrolled upon receipt of registration form and payment in full. No further notification will be given unless a class is filled or cancelled. Classes fill quickly. Register at least one week prior to the start of the class.

**If you miss the class registration deadline (classes begin Sept. 8th) you can call our Education Director, Meryl Cullom at (301) 634-2268 and if there is space available she can assist you with registration.

REFUNDS FOR SPRING/FALL CLASSES: If you wish to cancel, you must notify the Theatre in writing at least 5 (five) working days prior to the start of the class in order to receive a tuition refund minus a $10 registration fee. After the first class, you may receive a tuition refund minus the registration fee and one class tuition. After the second class, no refunds will be made.

REFUNDS FOR SUMMER WORKSHOPS: If you wish to cancel, you must notify the Theatre in writing at least 30 working days prior to the start of the session in order to receive a tuition refund minus the non-refundable deposit ($175).

CLASS SIZE: Adventure Theatre reserves the right to cancel any class or program not meeting minimum enrollment requirements.

PHOTOS: Adventure Theatre reserves the right to use photos taken during the course or a program or class for promotional purposes only.
