We are
excited about our new company of Resident
Artists. This core group of actors, directors
and designers have a high degree of professionalism
and a broad range of experiences.
An exciting development
was our collaboration with Tribute Productions
to produce the play Goodnight
Moon, which was performed this past May
and June at Adventure Theatre and at the
Atlas
Performing Arts Center in NE Washington, DC.
We have expanded our
performance offerings with several weekday
and evening
shows. This addition has been an attractive
field trip opportunity, through new partnerships
with the
D.C. Arts and Humanities Education Collaborative
and the
Helen Hayes Legacy Project, bringing hundreds
of school children from underserved areas of Washington,
D.C. at discounted ticket prices.
We have also launched
a new partnership with the National
Center for Children and Families (a facility
for homeless or abused families in Bethesda).
We are offering free tickets to the Center's young
children and we are conducting drama classes for
teenaged residents of the Center.
Additionally, we have
revised and remounted our weekday historical and
educational play about Clara
Barton, in collaboration with the Smithsonian's
Discovery Theatre and the National
Park Service, and are making it available
to schools in Montgomery County, Washington, D.C.
and Northern Virginia.
AT conducted two
new community service projects this past -- a
Toy Drive in December to benefit Children's Hospital,
and a Rescue Dog Adoption Day, facilitated by
the Montgomery
County Humane Society's Mobile Adoption Unit
in February, in conjunction with our production
of Go,
Dog. Go!
We have begun an internship
program, offering year-round production and
administrative opportunities to emerging actors
and technicians to gain hands-on experience with
a professional theatre company. One intern from
Canada is with us as part of the USArts
International Training Program. We have also
expanded our volunteer opportunities to area high
school students looking for interesting ways to
earn their student service learning hours.
I am so excited to
have joined the Adventure Theatre team.
Check out my blog and post comments –
there, you’ll find inside information about
the shows as they are in rehearsals with candid
photos and information on the casts and production
teams.
Excited,
