Q: Who is Adventure Theatre?
Adventure Theatre, founded in 1951, is the longest-running theatre program for children and families in the Washington metropolitan area and has been one of the main attractions at Glen Echo Park since 1971. Adventure Theatre cultivates new generations of audiences and artists by creating memorable theater experiences in an intimate and interactive environment. We produce stage adaptations of traditional and popular children's stories, offer creative theater-education programs, and build community through outreach initiatives.

Q: What will my child accomplish while at Adventure Theatre’s Summer Musical Theatre Workshop?
A: Your child will have the invaluable opportunity to be a part of the musical theatre world in a summer program that is entering its 32nd season as one of the leading area summer musical theatre workshops. By participating as a cast member in a full-scale production of a youth-appropriate main stage show, your child will achieve a sense of accomplishment and ownership that is unparalleled in other competing area programs. Parents will have a rare opportunity to view their child’s personal theatrical journey come to fruition onstage every second Friday- a success achieved through daily rehearsals including choreography, singing and acting instruction, with support by our educational & technical staff, set & costume designers.

Our primary goal at Adventure Theatre during the summer months is to provide a positive experience for children with musical-theater aspirations, while keeping the same atmosphere of relaxed fun for those who don’t.

Q: Who can enroll?
A: Kids! We accept children who are enrolled full time in school and will be six years of age at the start of their session through young adults up to 15 years of age. Adventure Theatre recognizes and promotes diversity. Classes are offered to children of any origin, race or level of special need without exception.

Q: What kind of supervision is provided?
A: A group of 18-20 children is directly supervised and instructed each day by their Director and their Assistant Director, for an adult to child ratio of at least 1/10. In addition, your child will receive additional supervision and instruction each day by our onsite staff including the Musical Director, Choreographer, Artistic Director and Program Coordinator.

Q: What kind of Professional Training does the staff have?
A: Adventure Theatre hires only the most promising and talented theatre and theatre education professionals in the Washington D.C. area. Among our staff for the summer of 2010, we are proud to employ qualified individuals who have:
- Helen Hayes Awards in acting/directing;
- Graduate Degrees from such Prestigious Theatre Education programs at New York, Bucknell and Catholic Universities;
- Twenty plus years teaching knowledge in the Montgomery County Public School system;
- Seasoned experience as members of national travelling in-school residency programs such as Open Dream Ensemble, Missoula Children’s Theatre and Dallas Children’s Theater;
- Training from other reputable area programs like The John F. Kennedy Center’s Performance Plus Program and The Papermill Theater; and

Q: What safety protocol measures are in place?
A: You and your child will be greeted each morning in the lower parking lot by two staff members who will personally escort them up to the theatre. Each afternoon, they will be escorted back to the parking lot by staff members. Every child will be accounted for via roll call in the morning, at midday and throughout the day by head count. Every child will have a medical form on file. Our Program Coordinator and no less than 2 additional full-time summer staff members are trained in First Aid and CPR and one full time staffer is a certified EMT. Every summer staff member has undergone a Federal background check and has been approved for work with minor children.

Q: Where do the kids rehearse and perform?
A: Everyone begins each day in the theatre, located in Historic National Glen Echo Park in Glen Echo, MD. Each and every day is spent on site in our state of the art 1.3 million dollar theatre and on the gorgeous surrounding grounds of the National Park.

Q: When are the sessions?
A: Sessions run all summer long (see below) and take place in two-week intervals beginning at 9 am and ending at 4pm Monday – Friday.

Session 1 (mini session)- June 14 – 18
Session 2 – June 21 - July 2
Session 3 – July 5- July 16
Session 4 – July 19 - July 30
Session 5 – August 2 - August 13
Session 6 - August 16 - August 27

Q: What is the cost?
A: Each two week session has a tuition amount of $800 per student. The $200 deposit and $10 registration fee to secure your spot are non-refundable. The balance is due to Adventure Theatre no later than May 1st in order to secure your child’s enrollment.

Q: What does that include?
A: Included in the cost of tuition:
- Your child will enjoy a ride on the Dentzel Carousel, one of only 135 functioning antique carousels in the country and one of the few still in its original location;
- A commemorative drawstring backpack and cast photo;
- One admission ticket to see our main stage production (Excludes sessions I, II, and VI)
- An invitation to participate in the traditional Kids Talent Show the first Friday of each session;
- A guaranteed role in one of four of our Summer Productions: The Magical Land of Oz, Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum!, Disney’s 101 Dalmatians, Kids or Disney’s Aladdin, Jr.;
- A daily afternoon snack;
- A cast party on the final Friday; and
- Hands on experience working with only the best and brightest theatre and education professionals.

Q: My child wants to come with a friend. Can they be grouped together?
A: We group and cast our participants first according to age and then according to casting needs and finally by student preference. We make every effort to cast our kids in accordance with fostering a harmonious atmosphere and will do our best to accommodate all student preferences via a form that is filled out by your child on the first day of every session.

Q: Where do I drop off and pick up my child ~ Is before and aftercare available?
A: Drop off and pick up takes place in the lower parking lot on the Glen Echo National Park campus. Drop off will begin at 8:30 am for a 9 am start time and your child will be ready for pick up between 4 and 4:15 pm every afternoon. Before and aftercare options are available for an additional cost. Q: Can I have receipt for child care tax purposes?
A: Certainly. Send an email to sanguaino@adventuretheatre.org requesting a receipt for your flexible spending account. Be sure to include your child’s name and the session he or she attended. You will receive a .pdf receipt back for your records with the appropriate tax related information.

Q: What does my child need to bring?
Participants will need to bring a water bottle, comfortable shoes and clothing, an additional layer based on the day’s weather, sunscreen if needed, a pencil, their script/score and a brown bag lunch that does not require refrigeration. They will be provided with snacks during the day. On occasion, your child will bring a note home with them requesting that they bring additional personal items such as white tights, black shoes, pants, etc. for use as a costume piece. We will send you a confirmation letter with all of the details.

Q: My child takes medication. Do you have a nurse on staff?
While our staff is trained in CPR and first aid, we do not have a nurse on staff to administer medications. Other than EPI Pens a parent might provide and other emergency first aid care such as treating cuts, scrapes, bee stings and the like, we require that participants administer medications on their own if needed during the day, or at home prior to arriving.
