Join Adventure Theatre’s 2011-2012 Book
Club!
Why a Book Club?
Adventure Theatre, founded in 1951, is the
longest running theatre program for children
and families in the Washington Metropolitan
area. Part of our company mission is to
produce stage adaptations of traditional
and popular children’s stories in
an effort to promote literacy, self-esteem
and the academic success of our youngest
patrons.
For these reasons, Adventure Theatre works
each season to provide audience members
who love our stage adaptations a chance
to fall in love with the books that inspired
them. Or vice versa!
What is the Book Club?
Our specially designed hands-on Book Club
workshops are open to the public and take
place after one performance of each of our
six main stage productions. After the show,
members are invited to join the Adventure
Theatre Education staff for a fun-filled
arts-and-crafts activity (snack included)!
All workshops are now offered on a flexible
drop-in basis so children and families may
decide to participate in as many or as few
workshops as they like! All participants
will receive an official “Read the
Book, See the Play” Book Club passport
that can be stamped at each workshop to
track their literary travels.
When are the Book Club workshops?
Adventure Theatre’s Book Club workshops
will take place after the following performances:
Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse –

How do I sign up?
Reserve your tickets for a book club performance
(see dates and times above) and pay an extra
$5/child to stay afterwards to participate
in the planned activity!
Recommended for ages 4 and up.
Don’t forget to take a look at our
Suggested Reading Lists (can we link the
list for the current show, or a place where
we can post all of them for the season?),
compiled especially for you by the AT Education
staff to complement the experience of each
of our main stage shows! Adventure Theatre
encourages families and children to make
reading a part of their daily schedules.
We strive to find titles that connect to
each of our shows in topic, author, or theme
and that are available at a number of DC
and Montgomery County Public Libraries.
Each Suggested Reading List is also included
in the Fun Guide sent to all patrons before
they attend a show!
